(KMOV) -- In this week's Go Green, teens working at St. Louis Artworks reuse and recycle to create whimsical bike racks.

St. Louis ArtWorks is throwing a party and art sale on Thursday to mark the organization's 15th year in operation.

The event runs from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Commerce Bank Education Center, 4651 Shaw Avenue. Have some birthday cake and ice cream and view art made by ArtWorks' young apprentices.

ArtWorks helps young artists ages 14 to 19 by pairing them with established artists to work as their apprentices. ArtWorks has provided opportunities for more than 1,900 young people since it was founded in 1995 by Grand Center Inc., the City of St. Louis and the Regional Arts Commission.

The MetroLink station off St. Charles Rock Road in Pagedale has a new look.  Or at least something new to look at.  A sculpture that grabs your attention and perhaps your imagination.

The Missouri Department of Economic Development has approved St. Louis ArtWorks for $19,760 in Youth Opportunities Program Tax Credits!  50% of your donation to St. Louis ArtWorks is eligible for these tax credits, which you can use to offset your Missouri state taxes. To learn more about making a donation to ArtWorks and receiving these credits, please see more info  here.

The St. Louis Business Journal asked area business leaders: What has your company recently done to become greener?

Good Works

When young people create art, the end result is an exceedingly genuine form of expression. With fewer years under their belts, teens have fewer filters shading their true vision, and the light of inspiration more readily shines through in the finished product.

St. Louis ArtWorks' Boomerang Press was honored by FOCUS St. Louis at its twelfth annual "What's Right with the Region!" awards ceremony May 7 as one of the four organizations that demonstrate innovation and vision in the making the St. Louis region a better place to live, work and visit.

Spirit of St. Louis gives $195,000 to nonprofits

The Spirit of St. Louis Women’s Fund recently gave $195,000 in grants to 13 local nonprofits.  The 2009 grant recipients include St. Louis ArtWorks provides work experience through art apprenticeships to St. Louis metropolitan youth; $4,000 to support four apprentices in a six-week summer program.
